Coolpad is all set to launch two new smartphones – Mega 3 and Note 3S, in India. The company has sent out media invites for an event scheduled for November 30, where it will unveil the new handsets.
The invite, however, does not reveal anything in terms of the specifications of the two devices. While the Note 3S is a successor to the Note 3 released a while back, the Mega 3 will succeed the Mega 2.5D, which was launched only earlier this year.
Competitor Chinese smartphone and technology company LeEco recently became the majority shareholder in Coolpad. The duo launched their Cool 1 dual smartphone a while back. The smartphone runs LeEco’s eUI skin layer on top of Android.
According to a report by PhoneRadar website, both Mega 3 and Note 3S are expected to be priced under Rs 10,000. The devices will most likely be 4G VoLTE-compliant. The report further adds that the two smartphones are expected to go on sale through Amazon, as has been the case with all Coolpad smartphones launched in the country so far.
Last week, Coolpad’s shares slid to a four-year low after it flagged a drop in full-year profit amid stiff competition.
This is just weeks after Chinese conglomerate LeEco, which has invested in high-tech products from electric cars to smartphones, said it was grappling with a shortage of cash and suffering from expanding too fast.
LeEco’s billionaire founder and chief executive, Jia Yueting, said that the firm was facing “big company disease” after having expanded at an “unprecedented rate”.
