LG G4 Stylus 3G With 3000mAh Battery Launched

LG G4 Stylus 3G With 3000mAh Battery Launched at Rs. 19,000

LG India has introduced a new variant of the G4 Stylus smartphone priced at Rs. 19,000. The latest LG G4 Stylus 3G smartphone is now listed on the company site with pricing details and is a 3G-only version of the original G4 Stylus. We can expect the new smartphone from LG to be available to buy soon.

There are few differences between the LG G4 Stylus (Review) and the LG G4 Stylus 3G apart from the former’s 4G LTE support. Unlike the G4 Stylus which packs a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, the G4 Stylus 3G is powered by 1.4GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592M processor. The LTE model sports a 13-megapixel rear camera while the 3G model packs an 8-megapixel rear camera. Both the models come with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Rest of the specifications of the LG G4 Stylus 3G are same as the original G4 Stylus.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop-based LG G4 Stylus 3G comes with a UI derived from the 2015 flagship smartphone, the LG G4, which runs the LG UX 4.0. The G4 Stylus features a 5.7-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) IPS display offering a pixel density of 258ppi. Other specifications include 1GB of RAM; 16GB of built-in storage; expandable storage support via microSD card (up to 32GB); 3000mAh battery (removable); Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n; Bluetooth 4.1; NFC; A-GPS; Glonass, and Micro-USB. It measures 154.3×79.2×9.6mm and weighs 163 grams.

Some of the highlights of the G4 derived UI on the G4 Stylus smartphones include Gesture Shot, which allows the camera to open and close a hand in front of the lens to start a three-second countdown for the shutter; Knock Code that allows users to unlock the phone by tapping a personalised ‘knock’ pattern on the display, and Glance View, which shows key notifications on the display when it is turned off.

To recall, LG had slashed the price of the G4 Stylus smartphone back in August in India. The G4 Stylus, which launched at Rs. 24,990 in India, was available at Rs. 21,000.

LG’s SmartThinQ connected-home hub will monitor and control appliances and sensors

lg smartthinq hub

The Amazon Echo was the one of the darlings of the online retailer’s record-breaking holiday season, so it was only a matter of time before a competitor popped out something similar. That competitor will be LG with its SmartThinQ hub, which looks very similar to the Echo and includes a large speaker for streaming music.

But LG’s device will focus on the connected home—monitoring various sensors and monitoring and controlling smart home appliances—where the Echo is more of a personal digital assistant. To that end, the SmartThinQ will support the Z-Wave, ZigBee, and Bluetooth protocols, as well as Wi-Fi and the AllJoyn Internet of Things platform. LG

Also unlike the Echo, LG’s SmartThinQ will have a 3.5-inch LCD on its angled top, which will display notifications from connected devices as well as reminders from personal calendars. While the SmartThinQ hub can talk to you much like the Echo does, it’s not equipped with a microphone and cannot respond to voice commands. Users will use a smartphone app to control the hub.

lg iot ecosystem

LG recently partnered with Lowe’s to integrate LG’s connected-home devices into the Iris by Lowe’s smart-home platform, but the company didn’t specify how the SmartThinQ hub might work within Lowe’s’ ecosystem.

LG has not announced when the hub will ship or how much it will cost, but the press release reports that the product will be demoed during CES in Las Vegas next week. We’ll get a better look at the hub then, along with the rest of the SmartThinkQ platform announced earlier this year.

Why this matters: LG is a major player in the home-appliance and smart-TV markets, but the company’s press release emphasizes that company’s connected-home strategy “prioritizes compatibility across multiple brands.” Supporting popular standards such as Bluetooth, Z-Wave, and ZigBee will help that effort, but AllJoyn is but one of several Internet of Things platforms jockeying to become a de facto standard.

There’s the Open Interconnect Consortium, backed by Intel, Samsung, and Dell; the Thread Group, backed by Nest Labs, ARM Holdings, and Samsung; Apple’s HomeKit platform; Nest Labs’ Weave protocol; and Google’s Brillo operating system. With some companies hedging their bets by backing more than one initiative, it’s anyone’s guess which one will carry the day.

First things first: Don’t forget to enter my last contest of 2015, the Cheapskate Mega Goodie-Bag. And thanks to those of you who wrote to express your love of contests! (And for those of you who prefer deal posts, don’t worry. The deals won’t stop.)

Second things second: a rerun of the best kind! I’m talking about today’s deal, which I first shared back in October, but is now even better.

When the LG Watch Urbane made its debut earlier this year, many reviewers swooned over its gorgeous styling and dazzling display.

Of course, it’s a premium watch, so it comes at a premium price. The Urbane sold for $349, and has recently dropped to $279. But today, and for a limited time, Beach Camera (via Rakuten) has the LG Watch Urbane for $199.99 shipped. That’s $25 less than last time around! The price will appear once you mouse over either of the color options: silver or gold.

Just to clarify, this is the original Urbane, not the brand new one that was announced a couple months back.

I spent some time with the watch earlier this year, and one thing is certain: it’s a beauty. Love the silver bezel, love the black leather strap, love the eye-popping 1.3-inch color screen. And, as noted above, you can also opt for a gold version. That said, in case it’s not obvious from the photo, the design definitely skews toward men’s wrists. And so does the size. Sorry, ladies. (Actually, it’s LG that should be apologizing.)

Although the watch runs on Android Wear, that software is now compatible with iPhones. The good news is that it works. The bad news: it works in a very limited way. You can get notifications from your phone, but you can’t respond to most of them. And you can’t install third-party apps or watchfaces, either.

Even so, if notifications are your main driver — and they’re certainly the main reason I wear a smartwatch — the Urbane makes a decent enough iPhone companion. It offers lots of fitness features, too.

But I must say, I really dislike Android Wear. It’s frequently confusing and often frustrating. Of course, I suspect some Apple Watch owners would say the same about Watch OS. Can you live with it? Sure. Will you want to? That, I can’t answer.

But others can. Over 300 Amazon buyers rated the Urbane 4.3 stars out of 5, and CNET’s Scott Stein scored it a 7.2 out of 10 — though one of his dings was price. At $349, the Urbane feels too dear. At $200 out the door, it’s awfully tempting.

Bonus deal: Most name-your-own price bundles are for books or games; this one is all about security. Over at StackSocial, you can pay what you want for the VPN Lifetime Subscription Bundle, which includes lifetime subscriptions (natch) to AnonVPN and disposable-email service Nonkly. OK, two products barely qualifies as a bundle, but we can let that slide. To get both, you need to pay at least the average price, which is $15.97 at the time of writing. If you pay less, you get just one year of AnonVPN, which normally costs $69. The two lifetime subscriptions would normally cost you $298(!), so it’s still a steal, whatever tier you choose.

Bonus deal 2: Freebie time! If you’re a fan of men in tights (the concept, not the Mel Brooks movie), iTunes has “Galavant: Season 1” in HD for free. This eight-episode miniseries, which returns for a second season early next year, wasn’t my cup of comedy tea. But it earned high marks from critics and viewers alike. Normally the entire season would cost you $20, so at $0, there’s zero downside to giving it a try.

LG updates wireless multiroom sound bars for 2016

sh8sh7.jpg

LG has announced not one but three new wireless multiroom sound bars for 2016 to replace the existing LAS751.

The SH8 and the SH7 offer a wireless subwoofer and slightly different cosmetics to last year’s version. Meanwhile the SH6 comes without a sub but features “dual bass ports” to enhance bass response.

All three models feature Wi-Fi — with compatibility for LG’s Music Flow system as well as Google Cast and LG’s “Auto Music Play” — in addition to Bluetooth connectivity.

The models include “BT-Fi,” which “automatically switches the connectivity method based on the content source, eliminating the need to manually switch connectivity methods if playing music from different content partners.” We’re getting clarification from LG what this means, but our guess is it can switch between Bluetooth and Wi-Fi automatically.

Also new is Adaptive Sound Control feature, which alters the sound mode of the bar according to the type of content you’re watching.

The models will be shown at CES 2015, with pricing to be announced.
