Deconstruct in style: Here’s how you can give your shirt a cool makeover

Some wardrobe essentials never lose its importance even when our closets go for a makeover. One of them is a classic, crisp white shirt. But, it’s time to inoculate a fresh perspective and try out this trend and deconstruct it to up your style stakes. From international designers such as, Simon Porte Jacquemus, Maison Martin Margiela, Victoria Beckham, Joseph and Zac Posen to Indian designers such as, Shweta Kapur, Dhruv Kapoor, this trend is being promoted by all. Even actors such as Sonam Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, among others are flaunting it.

Now what is a deconstructed shirt? Designer Shweta Kapur says, “It is taking apart a garment and putting it back together thereby changing the design from its core. It’s almost like reshuffling the original pieces to make something new.”

Designers believe that a different approach is required in deconstruction that helps to infuse fresh inspiration. “We all like to innovate classic shapes and what better than turning the effortlessly chic button-up shirt to a look that’s more experimental,” says designer Amit Aggarwal.

Moving on, there are myriad interpretations of how to deconstruct a shirt, the most important is the technique. “You can cut, twist, add ruffles to shirts and even remove its sleeves. Though they may be totally reworked, there might be holes in places that you wouldn’t expect or have necklines that are totally off. But, that’s the beauty of it,” says Aggarwal.

Wearing the front as back while leaving the buttons open for a backless top, unbuttoning the shirt at the collar and pulling it down to make it an off-shoulder top are some ways of deconstructing your shirt. “It’s hard to go wrong with deconstruction since it’s visually so strong. But avoid voluminous silhouettes in the accompanying garment,” says Kapur.

Final verdict: Don’t overdo it, and carry it off with the right attitude.

Steve Jobs Created The iPhone Because He Hated A Microsoft Employee: Here’s The Story

The iPhone, Apple’s flagship device and arguably one of the most important inventions of the century, has long been attributed as a product of the genius of Steve Jobs. Apparently, though, it is also a product of his hate.

Scott Forstall, the co-inventor of the iPhone and former Apple senior VP of iOS, revealed that Jobs started working on the now-iconic device due to a feud with a Microsoft employee.

How Was The iPhone Created?

In an interview at the Computer History Museum, and in his first public appearance since his controversial exit from Apple due to the failure of Apple Maps in iOS 6, Forstall revealed the events that pushed Jobs to create the iPhone.

“It began because Steve hated this guy at Microsoft. That is the actual origin,” Forstall said. That person was not Jobs’s longtime rival and sometimes friend Bill Gates but rather an unnamed Microsoft employee.

The Microsoft employee was the husband of a friend of Steve’s wife, Laurene. The couples often met in parties and other functions due to being in the same social circles, and every time Jobs ran into the man, “he’d come back pissed off,” Forstall narrated.

Setting the creation of the iPhone into motion happened at a weekend party, when the man told Jobs that Microsoft had “solved computing” through its early foray into tablet PCs. These devices, similar to the tablets of today, were lighter and smaller compared to computers and featured touch displays.

The fact that Jobs hated the most about the tablet PCs, leading to his irritation on the Microsoft employee’s comments, is that the devices only worked with a stylus. The Monday after, Jobs launched “a set of expletives” before starting to work on a touchscreen device that would outdo Microsoft’s tablet.

“First thing is, they’re idiots. You don’t use a stylus,” Jobs said, according to Forstall. Jobs said that users are prone to losing them, and they are counterintuitive considering that people are born with 10 styluses on their two hands.

The project started as a tablet, with Apple finding success in creating multi-touch displays. However, around 2004, Apple shifted from developing a tablet to creating a mobile phone after Jobs and Forstall entered a coffee shop. Jobs found that many customers were using their mobile phones, but they didn’t seem happy at all about it. Jobs considered it an opportunity and asked Forstall if the multi-touch display on the tablet that Apple was working on can be fitted on a mobile phone.

It was a “herculean” challenge to decrease the size of the multi-touch display, but Forstall knew that Jobs was right when the iPhone was completed.

“This is how phones need to be made,” Forstall said. The rest is history.

The Evolution Of The iPhone

The iPhone, ever since its announcement in 2007, has continuously evolved. The premium iPhone 8, which Apple is expected to reveal in September, is now a much more powerful and useful smartphone compared to its first iteration.

It is interesting to know that the creation of the iPhone was equal parts an emotional response and unique insight into consumer products. Nevertheless, Apple’s flagship product will not go anywhere as it evolves according to the needs of its users.

OnePlus 5 vs OnePlus 3T: Here’s Why You Should Upgrade To The New OnePlus Smartphone

OnePlus has officially unveiled its latest smartphone, the OnePlus 5, confirming the device’s specifications and features before it fully rolls out later this month.

The OnePlus 5 is a powerful Android-powered smartphone, continuing the company’s tradition of releasing devices that are considered as “flagship killers.” For customers who own its predecessor, the OnePlus 3T, is upgrading to the OnePlus 5 worth it?

OnePlus 5 vs OnePlus 3T Design

Both the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 3T are designed to feel like high-end smartphones such as Apple’s iPhone 7 and Samsung’s Galaxy S8 in the user’s hand. The OnePlus 5 keeps the all-metal unibody construction of the OnePlus 3T, while very slightly slimming down, and also retains the 5.5-inch AMOLED display.

Comparing the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 3T side by side, there really isn’t much of a difference. OnePlus 3T owners looking for a radical redesign will not get it with the OnePlus 5.

OnePlus 5 vs OnePlus 3T Specifications

OnePlus upgraded the specifications of the OnePlus 5 in almost every way compared to the OnePlus 3T. While the OnePlus 3T is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 with a quad-core CPU clocked at 2.35 GHz and an Adreno 530 GPU, the OnePlus 5 steps it up to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with an octa-core CPU clocked at 2.45 GHz and an Adreno 540 GPU.

Both the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 3T offer 64 GB and 128 GB internal storage options, but for the OnePlus 5, the 128 GB model is powered by 8 GB of RAM instead of the 6 GB of RAM found in the other version.

With these specifications, the OnePlus 5 offers a faster and more powerful experience than the OnePlus 3T.

OnePlus 5 vs OnePlus 3T Features

The OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 3T continue to run on Android’s latest versions. While the OnePlus 3T was launched on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and upgraded to the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat, the OnePlus 5 will continue the chain and come with Oxygen OS based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, ready to be upgraded to Android O once the next major version of the operating system is released.

One of the biggest reasons for OnePlus 3T users to upgrade to the OnePlus 5, however, is the new dual-camera setup found in the new smartphone. The main camera of the OnePlus 5 loses optical image stabilization but retains the 16-megapixel resolution from the OnePlus 3T and improves to a faster f/1.7 lens. The Snapdragon 835 also offers improvements through its new image signal processor, and the OnePlus 5 also comes with a 20-megapixels telephoto camera with an f/2.6 lens that works together with the main camera.

Should You Upgrade To The OnePlus 5?

OnePlus decided to discontinue the OnePlus 3T last month ahead of the launch of the OnePlus 5, and it is easy to see why. The OnePlus 5 is simply a better smartphone than the OnePlus 3T.

The OnePlus 5 is $40 more expensive than the OnePlus 3T, though, at $479 for the base model and $539 for the upgraded version. Its specifications and features, however, still makes the OnePlus 5 a steal for those prices.

Preorders for the OnePlus 5 are now open, with full availability to launch on June 27.

Here’s How To Remove Your Private Medical Records From Google Search Results – And Why You Should

Google is now entertaining requests of users who want to remove their private medical records online from search results.

Of course, this is one surefire way to address online safety and privacy, especially at a time when hackers tend to target the networks of numerous medical facilities or related peripherals across the globe.

How To Remove Your Private Medical Records

Before getting into the nitty-gritty details, it should be mentioned that Google recently updated its policy in removing online content from Google, which now includes “confidential, personal medical records of private people.”

Basically, what you want to do here is send proof to Google that your personal data is turning up in the search results and get in touch with the company to take it down.

Step 1: Double-check whether or not your private medical records are indeed online. To do this, simply search for your name on Google Search.

Note: Arguably, the best time to check is when news about hackers breaching medical facilities’ networks make the headlines.

Step 2: Copy and save the URL of a website where you found your details.

Step 3: Head to Google’s support page for taking down online content and make the request official.

Step 4: At the bottom of the page, click on “Remove information you see in Google Search” and answer the rest of queries accordingly. At the end of it all, provide the URL containing your personal records.

Note: If that support page doesn’t exactly fit the bill, you can head on over to Google’s legal support page for removing content, which offers more options to report.

Why You Should Ask Google To Remove Your Private Medical Records

As a rule of thumb, the less info you have on the internet, the less likely you are to become a victim of cybercrimes.

Back in August 2015, personal details of 3.9 million people got leaked online, leaving the victims vulnerable to hackers.

In other words, they were at risk of having their identities and banking and credit card info stolen, and they could’ve even had their medical information sold or used by other individuals and get denied medical attention due to debts.

The Bottom Line

To sum things up, Google is expanding the types of content it’ll remove from the search results, with the latest addition to the policy for private medical records.

It should be pointed out that users can have all sorts of sensitive info taken down as long as it’s under the company’s guidelines.

“You can ask Google to remove your sensitive personal information, like your bank account number, or an image of your handwritten signature, or a nude or sexually explicit image or video of you that’s been shared without your consent, from Google search results,” Google says.

With all said and done, staying safe and keeping your personal info private on the internet should be a top priority, as you can never know what hackers or unscrupulous users will do when they have your details.

Here’s What Really Goes Down At Camp Bacon

Everywhere you look, there’s bacon: piled six inches tall on a platter, kneaded into loaves of bread, studding donuts and pecan sandies. And, if that’s not your speed, you can always dig into the whole roasted hog, pork rinds, cracklin’, pork belly bao buns, and even chicken-fried bacon.

This is Zingerman’s Camp Bacon, and no man’s arteries are prepared for it. You’d think that after spending your days surrounded by 150 pounds of bacon, eating it nonstop, you wouldn’t go near a strip for weeks. Not so. If anything, it can reinforce your love of the salty stuff.

“Next weekend, as soon as I got up, I bought two packs of extra thick-cut bacon, and I ate it with every meal,” said graphics editor Vineet Sawant. He ate it straight up, on BLTs, in bacon fried rice, and in poha, a typically vegetarian Indian rice dish that he made carnivorous.

Sawant made the pilgrimage roughly 3,000 people make every year to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where they spend five days cooking, baking, and obsessively talking about salted, cured pork. It’s the kind of place that’d make Ron Swanson quiver with glee, featuring cooking, baking, and butchering demos, as well as a bacon-focused street fair, a bacon film festival, and a Bacon Ball, a dinner party that focuses on sharing stories and meals about meat.

After sampling everything in sight, these were Sawant’s top five dishes. Zingerman’s shared the recipes with us, so you can try them, too.

Zingerman’s has already released its dates for next year’s camp — May 30-June 3, 2018 — as well as early bird pricing for all of its classes. (Unlike traditional camps, you can attend everything, or take classes a la carte.) Some events are free, like the street fair and Bacon Beautiful Music — where musicians and poets perform bacon-y hits — and go all the way up to $295. The priciest option is Friday’s event, the Fresh Taste of Detroit, a noon-to-9:30 food tour of the best (read: most bacon-infused) food Motor City has to offer.
